Throughout the Symposium, our students actively participated in various activities and workshops designed to nurture their leadership skills and drive positive social change. One of the highlights was the experiential learning day called Kindness Day, where our students, together with all the other delegates, contributed to the advancement of humankind, animal welfare, and environmental protection through volunteerism aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). Activities included volunteering at Bangkok’s largest slums, caring for rescued elephants, and planting mangroves to mitigate the climate crisis. This hands-on experience allowed our students to make a tangible impact and understand the importance of community engagement.
Additionally, the Symposium offered thematic workshops conducted by UN agencies, providing our delegates with the opportunity to attend sessions based on their interests. Topics such as Green Jobs for Youth, Narrowing the Gap of Gender Equality, and Making Better Policies for Disaster Risk Reduction were explored. These workshops provided our students with valuable insights and practical knowledge to address pressing vital global issues and contribute to sustainable development. The Symposium also featured renowned humanitarian speakers who have gained international recognition for their exceptional work. Their inspirational stories of resilience and hope in the face of adversity captivated our students, demonstrating the extraordinary strength of the human spirit.
Attending the University Scholars Leadership Symposium was a transformative experience for our students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to become effective leaders and change-makers in their communities. They returned to HSUHK inspired and ready to apply their learning to make a meaningful difference.
